When the Stewards were all destroyed by the Corrupted, it would have been reasonable to assume that the momentum of the Houses would have been slowed down. But the fall of the Stewards, and the leadership and stability that they provided, did not provide any relief to the enemy. The Juke Box Hero was the next to fall, but he would not go down without a fight. For the Juke Box Hero had long been a loyal and trusted servant to his master, ever since he first got his hands on the One Guitar. At the time, he had not known the power that lay within that cursed instrument. All he knew was that the One Guitar would bring him the fame and glory he had always known he deserved. When he first strapped on the guitar, however, he felt a power he had never known surge through him. Had he not been distracted by that power, he might have also noticed that it had replaced a piece of his soul. Not that that would have stopped him. He enjoyed the power, and he was forever grateful to the one that had provided it to him.
So when it became apparent that he was not long for this world, the Juke Box Hero decided to take matters into his own hands. The Stewards had all been slain, as he had been directed to do, but that was clearly not enough. Wielding the One Guitar with all of his fury, he sought out the ones who had brought about his downfall, who hoped to stop his master’s plans. His search brought him to the doorstep of Brandy. He and his brethren had long known that she had gained the trust of the Stewards, and that they had provided crucial information to her. Now, with the Stewards no longer around to protect her, it was time for Brandy’s uppance to come. And the One Guitar would be the instrument of her doom.
As had been the case all along, though Brandy and the Houses were one step ahead of him. For just as the Juke Box Hero had known that Brandy needed to be eliminated, the Houses knew that he would be coming for her. So when he arrived, the One Guitar slung over his shoulder, Brandy was not surprised. Indeed, he did not even have time to bring his instrument around before he felt what was left of his soul escape from his body. The Juke Box Hero slumped to his knees, and attempted to catch his breath. He looked up at Brandy
And smiled.
The Juke Box Hero grinned at Brandy, and then looked up to the sky. He closed his eyes, and he waited. Because just as his doom had been imminent, he knew that Brandy’s doom was equally imminent. He may have failed to kill her, but he knew he would succeed in the end. The Stewards had fallen, and the Houses had already begun to fracture. The end was inevitable. It was only a matter of time. Brandy’s end would not come with the One Guitar. her end, like everyone else’s, would come with the sound of thunder.
